CITIZEN ARCHITECTURE STUDIO
2019
Though exempt from natural disaster, Milwaukee still faces environmental injustice. Across America's most segregated city, communities are still reeling from the effects of racist housing practices, inadequate access to public transit in low-income neighborhoods, misallocation of food resources across urban regions, health disparities across class and racial divides, lead poisoning and unsafe living conditions, and mass incarceration. Because they deal with the inequitable distribution of ecological burdens, the injustices Milwaukee faces are environmental in nature. The citizen architecture studio explores the role of architecture in addressing and resolving this complex issue.
