Tactical urbanism is a low-cost, temporary changes to improve local neighborhoods and gathering places. Tactical urbanism is also referred to as guerilla urbanism, pop-up urbanism. In this project we have taken a vacant lot and designed 'planter box plus' to engage social activities in the community. The planters acts as a seating, engage children and promote cultural significance of the neighborhood. The selected site is Home Grown Unity Orchard at N 38th street, center Peace neighborhood.

This event is held on prior to installation of the planters. This event gave an opportunity to know the neighbors and neighborhood better. This was very helpful to get the input we wanted for the design. It also gave us better understanding of their needs and knowledge of resources what they lack.
We had 5 stations in the event. 1. Food station 2. Build your own dream home 3. Catch a ball and answer the question 4. Who do you want to have in your park 5. Write down your dream on the balloon and frame the picture. These stations helped us to interact with the neighbors and know their interests. |
