Years 0-10 of the 15 year plan outline future residents.
In the first five years ideally the house will go through renovations to an open floor plan. The open floor plan will be instituted in order to encourage social engagement and sharing within the house. The ideal residents for the house one would be elderly on the first floor. The elderly would move in on a rent-to-buy bases. The second floor would be rented by a single mother and the third floor rented by a couple, single person, or single person the works from home. In the first five years the elderly will be able to pay off the whole duplex with $200 more than they are currently averaging for rent. During the time the elderly are paying off house one, house two will be renovated. In years five through ten residency will change. The elderly will own house one and will be able to move in their children and grandchildren onto the second level. They can rent out the top floor but now the elderly will be the owners. The single mother would move into house two with two other single parents or families on the other two floors. In this time the bridge between the houses will be built thus creating the physical portion of the shared housing. This set up will allow the elderly to have equity to pass onto their children. Their children and grandchildren can help care for them and housing maintenance. The elderly can also provide care/babysitting for their grandchildren as well as the children in house two. Although I have mapped out an ideal situation the floor plans and house configurations can accommodate all home conditions. |
